- variable or fixed pension
- at what age will you retire
- part-time retirement
- variable decreasing or variable increasing benefits
- pension for your partner
You can choose a fixed or variable pension
In the year you turn 58, you will be asked to make a preliminary choice between a variable or fixed pension. Or you already did.
- A variable pension can change annually because we will continue to invest. If investments do well, then you will benefit from this. If investments do not so well, your pension could change too. We spread the results over five years. This is how we avoid major changes to your pension. It is called Collective Variable Pension (CVP).
- Will you opt for a fixed pension? Then you will buy a benefit with your capital from an external insurer.
You make your choice final on your retirement date. This can be done at age 68, the standard retirement date, at the latest. If you don't choose a profile, You will automatically receive the variable pension. This applies to your provisional and your final choice.

At what age will you retire?
You can choose to retire earlier or later than age 68.
You may retire 10 years before the state retirement date currently in force at the earliest. And five years after the expected state retirement date at the latest. By expected state retirement date, we mean the date you will receive state retirement pension. You can find the expected date at SVB.nl(opens in new window). And it also shows the date currently applicable. You will not accrue any additional pension after age 68.
Are you going to retire before your state retirement date? Then you have an option to get an additonal benefit until AOW with the AOW bridging pension. Contact us via the contact page if you want to know more. Or if you want to get a calculation. You cannot view or submit this choice in my-Shell pension.
Early retirement means that your monthly pension benefit will be lower. Because the money has to be paid out over a longer period. Ask a financial adviser what this means in your situation. Of course, you also have to discuss your retirement date with your manager.
Do you want to retire part-time?
In that case, you will continue to work for the other part. You will still accrue a pension on this part. You then opt for a part-time retirement. Discuss with your manager and HR whether this is possible in your situation.
Choices for your benefit and pension for your partner
When you retire, in addition to choosing between a fixed or variable pension, you can also opt for a fixed annual increase or decrease in your payment. You can also decide whether to use (part of) your pension capital for a benefit for your partner.
Do you opt for a variable benefit from the Collective Variable Pension (CVP)? In addition you can then opt for a fixed annual increase or decrease. If you opt for a fixed increasing benefit, you will start with a lower benefit that will increase by 1% each year. If you opt for a fixed decreasing benefit, you will start with a higher benefit that will decrease by 1% each year. We establish your pension benefits annually on 1 July. We then include the result of the previous year's investments plus any 1% increase or decrease.
You can use part of your capital to secure benefits for your partner. Your partner will then receive a benefit if you pass away after your retirement. Always decide together with your partner whether to continue the partner's pension or not. This is called buying or waiving a partner's pension.
