Insurance for your children. As a parent, you obviously want the best for your children. Especially if something happens to you. That’s why we offer your children an orphan's pension: if you die before your retirement date and are in our employment at the time, your children will receive a benefit.

How does the orphan’s pension work?

Summarised:

  • It is not necessary for you to register your children for this insurance; we will receive information about them from your municipality automatically.
  • Your child or children will receive a benefit if you die while you are in the employment of Shell. You must be the parent of the children in question. Stepchildren or foster children that you care for are eligible for an orphan’s pension too.
  • The orphan's pension is insured on a risk basis. This means that it only applies while you are in the employment of Shell.
  • What happens if you leave Shell? And you are receiving a benefit due to unemployment or illness? Then the insurance will continue until you stop receiving a benefit. What if you are not receiving a benefit of this nature? Then the insurance for the partner’s pension will continue for a maximum of 3 months. Or until you get a new job. The insurance will then stop automatically.
  • Payment of the orphan’s pension starts with a fixed monthly amount: 8% of your salary per child. We increase or decrease the benefit each year by the result of the investments. You can read more about this on the Collective variable Pension (CVP) page. You cannot insure a higher or lower benefit with us.
  • The orphan’s pension stops when your child reaches the age of 25.

For all the conditions, see the regulations (pdf)(opens in new window).

Not sure that we have your children's details?

In special situations, we might not have the correct details. For example, if your children were born abroad and are still living abroad. In this situation, we will not receive your children’s details automatically. Contact us via the contact page if you are not sure that we know about your children.
