Working more or less

Are you going to work more or less? Your salary will change and this will have consequences for your pension accrual. Even if you are going to work more or less temporarily.

Working less means a reduction in contributions

If your salary is lower, fewer contributions will be made. Your pension capital will grow more slowly as a result. This can mean that you ultimately receive a lower pension. The opposite is also true: if you work more, more contributions will be paid for your pension.

Think about whether you want to change your flexible contribution

You and your employer contribute monthly to your pension. Shell pays a fixed contribution of 21%. On top of that comes your own contribution: your fixed contribution is always 2% and your flexible contribution is 5% by default. You choose whether to increase or reduce this flexible contribution: from a minimum of 0% to a maximum of 7%. If you do not do anything, your flexible contribution will remain 5%. However, you can change your flexible contribution at any time via Workday(opens in new window) (view the manual (pdf)(opens in new window)). Would you like to know how a different flexible contribution would affect your pension? Or what the impact is on your gross income? Then use the calculation tool. You cannot change your contribution in my‑Shell pension.
