Transfer of accrued pension rights

Did you have another employer before you started working for Shell? And did you accrue pension through that employer or other employers? If so, you could ‘transfer’ this pension to us, Shell Nederland Pensioenfonds Stichting (SNPS). We call this a transfer of accrued pension rights. You can do so at any time. But many people think about this carefully when they change jobs. You can ask your new pension fund or insurer to have the value of your pension transferred. We also call it: pension provider.

Is the transfer of accrued pension rights a good idea?

You can compare pension schemes with Pension 1-2-3. You can also ask a financial adviser for advice. Your partner must agree to the transfer of accrued pension rights.

Transfer of accrued pension rights around the changes in the law

Since 1 July 2023, there are new rules for pensions. The transition to the new pension will not be simultaneous for all pension providers. Transfer of accrued pension rights is only possible if both pension providers operate under the same rules.

We (SNPS) will switch to the new rules with effect from 1 January 2026. You can only proceed to transfer accrued pension rights with a pension provider that has also switched to the new rules. Pension providers have time to proceed to transition until 2028.
